Abstract

This study aims to improve students' speaking ability and increase student interest in speaking
class at STIKes Perintis Padang by using role play strategy. This is classroom action research methods
that aimed at addressing problems in students' ability to speak English. This study was conducted in 2
cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Qualitative data obtained
through observation and diaries, while the quantitative data obtained through tests and questioners. The
results of this study show that the implementation of role play strategy has been successful since there is
an increase in students' speaking ability. The results of the study showed an increase in students 'speaking
ability and improvement of students' interest in student learning.
