ANALYSIS OF HEAVY METAL MERCURY (Hg) IN NAILS AND HEMOGLOBIN LEVELS (Hb) GOLD MINERS ON NAGARI ABAI SIAT SANGIR DISTRICT SOUTH SOLOK

Abstract

Mercury can cause serious problems for human health, such as the bioaccumulation of mercury in the brain and kidneys which ultimately leads to neurological diseases. As long as in the body mercury (Hg) will be bound to proteins, metallic-sister and hemoglobin. Hemoglobin (Hb) is a pigment containing iron contained in red blood cells whose main function is in transporting oxygen from the lungs to all body tissue cells. This study aims to analyze the relationship of heavy metal levels of mercury (Hg) in nails with hemoglobin (Hb) levels in gold miners. This type of research is descriptive experimental using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer) method. From the results of research that has been done that there is no relationship between heavy metal mercury (Hg) on ​​the nails and hemoglobin (Hb) levels with p value 0.642> 0.05 and Pearson correlation -0.111 which means there is no relationship. Of the 20 samples containing mercury (Hg) in normal gold miners as many as 10 samples (50%) and low as many as 10 samples (50%). and normal hemoglobin (Hb) levels were 14 samples (70%) while the abnormal ones were 6 samples (30%).
